With the holidays coming up, you may be hitting the road to visit friends and family, or it may just be time for a family vacation. Whatever your plans may be, you should make sure that taking care of your teeth is a part of your travel itinerary.

Let your dentist know that you will be out of town. You might ask them to give you a list of dentists at your destination, just in case an emergency arises, and you will want to keep their phone number in your purse or wallet. Make sure that you have your insurance card with you as well. It would be a good idea to schedule an exam and cleaning for yourself and your family before you leave, just to make sure your trip will be free of potential dental issues.

You may want to consider buying a travel toothbrush, or disposable toothbrushes to take with you to make brushing easier while you travel. You will want to store your toothpaste and toothbrush in a separate part of your luggage. Brushing your teeth in the hotel bathroom, but do not store your toothbrush or toothpaste there, and make sure that you don’t drop your toothpaste cap on the floor. You will want to make sure that you keep your toothbrush clean and dry. If you are driving, keep plenty of water on hand, and enjoy crunchy fruits and vegetables. Water will keep your mouth and body hydrated and clean your mouth of acids and bacteria. The fruits and vegetables can provide your body with vitamins, and scrub the surfaces of your teeth.
